About the Art Club classes.
Children between Year 3 and Year 6 will be painting from their imaginations in a quiet, judgement-free setting. The teaching model is based on Point Zero painting, with the focus on developing a personal creative process, rather than on the final pieces of work. This is done using water-based, washable paints on A3 or A4 paper pinned to the walls. The children move between the paint table and their work and stand to paint. There will be some exploration of different mediums (e.g. pencil, charcoal, pastel) and practicing techniques (e.g. printing), as well as activities based on the work of other artists.
There will be a maximum of 8 children in the class, which lasts for an hour. The classes run weekly for 10 weeks and cost £85. There won't be a class during the half term break. All materials provided and a snack of fruit and biscuits.
Classes are continuing in the Spring term 2024

About Rebecca.
Rebecca grew up on a farm in Australia, with an interest in being outdoors and photographing nature. She studied Speech and Language Therapy in Melbourne and has worked mainly with children and their parents in Australia and the UK.
Both her children grew up in Cambridge and attended Morley Memorial Primary School, where Rebecca often helped in the classroom with literacy and maths, as well as class art activities. Other community involvement included helping with a Mums and Toddlers' Group and the Year 5 - 6's Children's Church at St Barnabas Church. She was involved with the Cambridge Dive Team for several years, as a chaperone, team leader and secretary.
In May 2017, Rebecca completed an Art Foundation at Cambridge Regional College. This was a fantastic opportunity to focus on making art and developing her creative process.
In July 2017, she began attending 5 day residential courses in Point Zero painting, returning in 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2023. These are run by Isabel Fouchecour, www.yespainting.com
Rebecca completed a Masters in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy in 2021 and now works with adults at Cambridge Counselling Service and also with the charity Lifecraft.
Rebecca has an enhanced DBS certificate, available to view on request.

About Point Zero.
The Point Zero model has been developed by observing how young children draw and paint with freedom and individuality from their own perception of the world at a particular time. Point Zero is the here and now and can be a rich source of creativity for each person, sometimes called "intuition" or "imagination".
Children and young people have a lot of demands and expectations placed on them to perform and achieve. Sometimes the worries about not meeting expectations can prevent them from fully accessing their creativity to help them approach challenges and solve problems.
The Point Zero method aims to encourage children to develop and enjoy their creative process, by freeing them from worries about what others might think and replacing concerns with an sense of freedom to be spontaneous, playful and curious. It encourages getting around blocks by inventing and experimenting.
Michele Cassou's book "Kids Play - Igniting Children's Creativity" summaries the Point Zero principles as:

- painting for process, not product
- looking inside yourself and using your intuition and spontaneity as a source of inspiration
- accepting the images with out judging or evaluating them
- a safe context to explore and experiment
- removes pressure to perform
- offers creative adventure
- encourages self-expression
- inspires self-reliance and problem solving
